Two new reports from the USA Academy of Sciences

Post by JRH » Fri Aug 17, 2018 10:21 am

Dear Colleagues,
There are two new reports from the USA National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of direct interest to us in terms of scientific research data.

Firstly the NAS has published a report on a Workshop on Data Science :-

It is interesting from several points of view notably education and training in data science skills.
This confirms in my mind that a generic education and training across all our IUCr Commissions on data science skills training
would be good to initiate. Volunteers welcome to develop this idea.

Secondly the NAS has published:-

It is a very wide ranging report covering many aspects that we are interested in.
Our databases are specifically cited on page 99.

You can download a free, advance of publication, copy of each report by registering yourself at the NAS publications website. (https://www.nap.edu/login.php?record_id=25199)

Best wishes,
John R Helliwell
Chair of the IUCr Committee on Data
