Software is a key issue in a book designed to be a practical volme, and I think it needs to be referenced regulalrly in all the relevant chapters. This does mean, however, that it can get easily out of date. though thsi is less of a problem in some ways with an on-line version.

Role of Software

One issue that seems important to me is how to put the role of software into the discussion. For example, if one is describing indexing, it is important to understand how each of the major algorithms work, but the theory doesn't have much meaning apart from their embodiment in, e.g., TREOR, ITO, DICVOL. We (I) should start by looking at other IT volumes, but I wonder if people think this is more of an issue in powders relative to the content of other volumes?
