To reduce problems arising from independent creation of identical data names in different dictionaries, it is proposed that some namespace convention be introduced. this forum discusses that issue. Re: Discussion of small-angle scattering data deposition

Thanks, Andrew: that's a very helpful survey of the issues faced within that community, and I guess it's a model for many other fields where there are emerging or varied experimental techniques. One thing that seems clear to me is that 'metadata' is a many-layered concept. One needs metadata that de...

Archiving raw data: Summary of 2011 CCP4bb discussion

(Posted on behalf of Tom Terwilliger for technical reasons.) This is a summary of some of the unique points made in a discussion on archiving images for PDB depositions Oct-Dec, 2012 on the CCP4 bulletin board . The IUCr has commissioned The Diffraction Data Deposition Working Group (DDDWG) to cons...

Symposium on Semantic Physical Science

It's not core to the remit of this group, but some of you may nevertheless be interested in the Symposium advertised below, organised by the Unilever Centre for Molecular Science Informatics, especially if you're in the Cambridge area at the time. Certainly the IUCr publishing operations see ready a...

Re: Planned upgrade to Matrix 4

I'm happy to say that the upgrade of MySource Matrix 3.28.9 to Squiz Matrix 4.6.1 appears to have successfully traversed the 13 steps required, and the system is now fully open for business again. However, the "easy edit interface" graphical editing mode entered by the /_edit suffix was no...

Re: Planned upgrade to Matrix 4

A reminder that I am planning to attempt to upgrade the content management system Matrix to version 4 tomorrow (9 December). Please do not make changes to your web pages during 9 December, as there is a risk that such changes could be lost.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Planned upgrade to Matrix 4

I find that I have another meeting on November 25th, so I shall postpone the planned Matrix upgrade for two weeks, until 9 December, since that will allow us to move straight to the next Matrix release, 4.6.1.

Therefore, please do not upload any content to the IUCr web site on 9 December 2011.

Prioritizing raw images for deposition

In trying to determine data storage policies and link them to real-world resource availability, it is important to establish priorities. I would like to introduce the idea of data "triage". Triage is the process whereby casualties in battle or patients attending an emergency room are asses...
