Data uncertainty: Minimising it and characterising the uncertainty that remains

Post by JRH » Fri Jun 20, 2025 9:11 am

Dear Colleagues,
A very important topic is data uncertainty: minimising it and characterising the uncertainty that remains.
Yet it is often ignored even in publications or public release of their underpinning data.
I have written two books recently on both these aspects:

i.Firstly on minimising data uncertainty: "Certifying Central Facility Beamlines for Biological and Chemical Crystallography and Allied Methods" details are here
https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/ ... 31-80181-5
Proceeds of the sales of this book automatically go from Springer to the IUCr Outreach fund.

ii. Secondly on characterising the data uncertainty that remains. This book is specific to structural biology:
"Precision and Accuracy in Biological Crystallography, Diffraction, Scattering, Microscopies, and Spectroscopies" details are here
https://global.oup.com/academic/product ... g=en&cc=gb#
Proceeds of the sales of this book I will donate to the IUCr Outreach fund.

Best wishes,
John
